A Cool 5 Race began in June of 2008 as a community project to raise funds to enhance the recreational opportunities on Beech Mountain for our residents and visitors. Through a decade of running and raising money, the Recreation Center has been able to upgrade and expand the recreational opportunities on Beech Mountain.
This family fun event, A Cool 5 offers 3 different races for all skill levels and ages, a race for everyone! This proven race is a challenging 5 mile course at an elevation peak of 5,400ft. The paved course overlooks the Blue Ridge Mountains, and has a fast downhill finish. “Cool” 5 gets the name from the cool temperatures Beech Mountain provides, which makes it a perfect place for a summer race. A 1.5 fun run/ walk and a 1.5 walk and wag with moderate elevation change, and spectacular views.
The Friday before the race we offer a Race Benefit Dinner: Italian Night. All race participants receive a free entry into the Taste, and can buy extra tickets for family and friends for $10.00. This event is open to the public. This year the proceeds from this dinner and the race are going towards building the Shane Outdoor Park.
